2012 Topps Platinum Football Cheat Sheet

Rate this Entry
In any football product this year, the #1 and #2 picks are a given when it comes to a draft break: Indianapolis Colts (Andrew Luck) and the Washington Redskins (Robert Griffin III). The only thing in question is which goes #1 and which goes #2. But what about the other 30 NFL teams?

Here is a breakdown of available hits by team for 2012 Topps Platinum Football. This is believed to be 99% accurate according to the latest updated checklist at the time of posting this blog. This might help you in determining which teams to bid on or draft in Platinum breaks.

Each box of 2012 Topps Platinum football contains 3 hits—2 on-card rookie autographs and 1 autographed rookie refractor patch.

First, a breakdown of rookie autos available by team, ranked in order from teams with the most rookie autos to the teams with the least rookie autos.

Indianapolis Colts (5)
Miami Dolphins (5)
Saint Louis Rams (4)
Cincinnati Bengals (3)
Cleveland Browns (3)
Houston Texans (3)
Minnesota Vikings (3)
Philadelphia Eagles (3)
Seattle Seahawks (3)
Arizona Cardinals (2)
Baltimore Ravens (2)
Carolina Panthers (2)
Denver Broncos (2)
Detroit Lions (2)
Kansas City Chiefs (2)
New York Giants (2)
Pittsburgh Steelers (2)
San Francisco 49ers (2)
Tampa Bay Buccaneers (2)

New Orleans Saints (1)
New York Jets (1)
Oakland Raiders (1)
San Diego Chargers (1)
Tennessee Titans (1)
Atlanta Falcons (0)
Dallas Cowboys (0)
New England Patriots (0)

So, right away we see that there are three teams with no rookie autographs possible in Platinum. Now let’s do a breakdown of rookie patch autos, which are 1 per box:

Indianapolis Colts (4)
Miami Dolphins (3)
Saint Louis Rams (3)
Cleveland Browns (2)
Denver Broncos (2)
Minnesota Vikings (2)
San Francisco 49ers (2)
Arizona Cardinals (1)
Baltimore Ravens (1)
Buffalo Bills (1)
Carolina Panthers (1)
Chicago Bears (1)
Cincinnati Bengals (1)
Detroit Lions (1)
Houston Texans (1)
Jacksonville Jaguars (1)

Tennessee Titans (1)
Washington Redskins (1)
Atlanta Falcons (0)
Dallas Cowboys (0)
Green Bay Packers (0)
New England Patriots (0)
San Diego Chargers (0)
Seattle Seahawks (0)

So if we combine the two previous lists, which represent the guaranteed three hits per box, we come out with this breakdown of possible hits by team:

Indianapolis Colts (9)
Miami Dolphins (8)
Saint Louis Rams (7)
Cleveland Browns (5)
Minnesota Vikings (5)
Cincinnati Bengals (4)
Denver Broncos (4)
Houston Texans (4)
Philadelphia Eagles (4)
San Francisco 49ers (4)
Arizona Cardinals (3)
Baltimore Ravens (3)
Carolina Panthers (3)
Detroit Lions (3)
Kansas City Chiefs (3)
New York Giants (3)
Pittsburgh Steelers (3)
Seattle Seahawks (3)
Tampa Bay Buccaneers (3)
Washington Redskins (3)
Buffalo Bills (2)
Chicago Bears (2)
Jacksonville Jaguars (2)
New York Jets (2)
Oakland Raiders (2)
Tennessee Titans (2)
Green Bay Packers (1)
New Orleans Saints (1)
San Diego Chargers (1)
Atlanta Falcons (0)
Dallas Cowboys (0)
New England Patriots (0)

So, right away, based on the guaranteed hits, we can safely eliminate the following three teams from the top of your draft/bid boards, as they have no guaranteed hits in Platinum. Of course, you can always pull a nice parallel….:

Atlanta Falcons
Dallas Cowboys
New England Patriots

There are a number of “long shot” hits in Platinum this year, including dual, triple, and hexagraph autos, as well as veteran patches and dual jumbo patch rookie autographs. I will try to do a breakdown of the long-shot hits by team as well, but this will require A LOT of time. This list will at least give you a good guideline on which team to draft or bid on should you find yourself in a break in which you aren’t sure exactly who to take team-wise.

Happy breaking!
